Frequently Asked Questions:

Do TreasureHunter3D collect any user information via apps?

We are several times asked if our applications collect any user information like GPS location - the answer is NO. Our application does store images or location of scan data locally on the user's smartphones only when the user gives permissions. Scan data can only be shared or transferred from a smartphone device on a user request.

Does device or smartphone need internet or GPS to operate during treasure hunting?

No. Internet connection or GPS are not required for the device to operate and none of the user data is ever sent to any server or being shared without user awareness. The user can share data only on his demand using the standard iOS/Android sharing feature that is described in the user manual. GPS location can be used to locally store the location of taken scans, but only if the user enables this feature in the application settings.

Can your detectors be used underwater?

Our detectors are not 100% waterproof and therefore cannot be used for underwater use. There is a possibility to use them underwater if they are placed in a water protection plastic bag.

What sensors are TreasureHunter3D devices using? (Certificate Link!)

TreasureHunter3D Treasure detector devices using sensors that we use have been tested to military & space specification standards developed by Bartington Instruments (UK company) with 35 years of experience. CERTIFICATE

GoldHunter3D detector device uses classic detector coils and operating principle.

TREASURE DETECTOR (TreasureLight, TreasureHunter, GoldenEye, GoldenEye Plus)

How do treasure detector work?

TreasureDetectors detect spatial variations in the Earth’s magnetic field, caused by anomalies in the ground structure. This technique is widely used to detect and map archaeological artifacts and features as well as in the mineral and oil exploration industries. This kind of survey are used in both terrestrial and marine applications.

How does a treasure detector detect gold?

3D ground scan detectors are best in detecting ferromagnetic objects, but this is not a limitation. Due to high sensitivity and environmental situations where the gold or precious treasures are places, these metal detectors can be the best choice for professional treasure hunters.

Disseminated gold, placer gold deposits, or natural gold and veins in consolidated soil can be easily detected by the detector since they are associated with mineralized zones that also contain magnetite or other magnetic minerals. Solid gold can be detected only if it is buried in soil that normally contains a small amount of magnetite or magnetic material or it is placed in a chest or other metallic box.

Magnetic holes that are in most cases created by a man when digging a hole at any specific location on the Earth’s crust cause anomalies in the magnetic signatures that can be easily detected by 3d metal detector. Such holes often hide gold or other valuable objects.

In other words, classic metal detectors are much better when the goal is to find a single coin buried up to 30 cm under that sand on the beach or discriminate between different metals, while 3D metal detectors perform better when users seek bigger treasures that can be buried way deeper and non-metallic objects (placer gold deposits, chests, caves, tunnels, caverns..) that cannot be found by classic metal detectors, but in many cases hide gold or other precious treasures.

Treasure detectors determine object material and gold with the shape and color of a 3D ground scan. So we can determine if an object is ferromagnetic or not. If it's not it's a good chance of gold detection. In this example, the 3D ground scan is mostly going in positive (RED or YELLOW color). The shape looks like this:

If the object is not ferromagnetic (gold, silver, aluminum) positive signal with a small chair below the peak of the signal. It is a good indicator you have detect the Gold target.

What's the correct use of your treasure detector?

Make sure you are connected to smartphone phones via Bluetooth to excess smart features like a 3D Ground scan. Check the detector battery and assemble the detector properly. When performing a scan make sure not to swing the device and keep it close to the ground. perform steady, slow, and vertical movements during scanning. For better scanning results balance the detector frequently before every scan. When the object is detected, scan the area from different sides and with different settings to narrow down the possibility of what the target is. When using depth function make sure to set correct setting about soil material.

How to balance treasure detector?

With ground balancing we calibrate the detector device to local ground, this eliminates false signals from minerals, enabling the detector to detect deeper and provide more accurate Target ID results. Balancing means eliminating the ground presence and detecting only object present in the ground. The ground balance is done when entering any scan mode. By short pressing the main button the detector sets to ground zero. Make sure that you balance the treasures detector away from metallic and electronic objects and over an area of the ground without any object presence for reaching the best results in balancing.

Can a treasure detector tell you what the target is?

Yes, a treasure detector can determine objects, material, size, shape, and depth. Object material is usual to determine with the shape of a scanned signal. For a ferromagnetic material like iron, the scan signal is going from the positive to a negative level, resolution in a nice sine sign. For non-ferromagnetic materials like gold, we see only a positive signal with a little dip on the peak. For non-metallic objects like a cave, scan results only in negative showing wave-like dent. Size and shape can be read, only in 3D ground scan mode where we can clearly see the object size depending on the scan area and shape because it's displayed on the smartphone. Depth is calculated with the depth function.

How deep does a treasure detector detect targets?

The maximum detection depth of the treasure detector is approximately 30m or 100ft. The detection depth depends on the ground material. Different soil materials have different mineralization so make sure to set settings correctly in-depth indication mode. The detection depth also depends on the target material and size. For example, bigger targets can be detected deeper than smaller targets. Iron objects can be detected deeper into the ground than aluminum objects.

What kind of objects can be discovered using treasure

Precious metals like gold and silver, ancient bronze objects, caves, tunnels, caverns, water sites, tombs, vases, graves, underground pipelines, oil wells, old wine cellars, world war findings.

Can treasure detector detect gems?

In nature, diamonds are found in areas where there have been volcanic activity or erosion and where natural elements such as streams, rivers, or glaciers might have taken them. Prospectors follow the indicator trail back to gold or the volcanic pipe which may contain diamonds. Interestingly, some of the same indicator minerals for gold are also indicators for diamonds. Among the most common indicator minerals for diamonds are chromium garnets, glassy green olivine, black micro-ilmenite, and magnetite. Garnet and magnetite are also both good indicators for gold. So, if you find gold, there may be a diamond rock nearby. Also, pure crystals of garnet are valuable gemstones. Garnet varieties occur in shades of green, red, yellow, and orange. In other words, metal detectors will not directly detect gemstones, diamonds, and pearls, what a metal detector can do is to lead you to indicator minerals, that are present in places that hide all these precious treasures.

Can a metal detector tell depth?

Depth estimation is a very complex thing and it almost impossible to implement it to make perfect  due to these reasons:

  • there can be several targets at one place at a different depth, since device it is not able to know that, it takes into calculation the sum of all

  • user is able to select soil, but in a real-world environment, it is hard to define the type of soil 100% since it is mixed

  • objects come in different shapes, mass, and material, so it is hard to predict what exactly take into account

So in practice, it only gives a very approximate estimation about how deep the target can be. Results are always better if the right type of soil is selected in-depth function.

How do metal detectors work?

Metal detectors work by transmitting a magnetic field generated by coil a then analyzing that field as it returns from the environment that the signal was transmitted. The processing of the signal is done by a control unit that generates audio tones when it detects that the return signal has changed.

Why and When using different coils on the metal detectors?

Using different coils for searching is a very self-explanatory process. We are using different sizes of coils for different opportunities. Bigger search coils (like 11" search coil) are often used for covering bigger areas quicker. Bigger coils also reach more depth so you can detect target deeper with smaller coils. But also that has its limits due to the law of physics. For example, if you use extreme sizes of coils like 50+ inch coils, it doesn't mean you can detect deeper areas, usually, coils can reach maximum depths of 2m. Bigger coils also do not perform well in a trashy environment, because they can detect multiple targets at once and its harder to determine which target is a witch

We use smaller coils (like a 5" search coil) for more detailed searching, they also used for locating targets more accurately than bigger targets and perform much better in trashy environments. So we usually use bigger coils to cover large areas and then smaller ones to detect and locate targets more accurately.

Can Metal detector tell you what the target is?

Of course, Every material has a specific number we call this scale of numbers Target ID value. Many factors influence on Target ID accuracies, like soil mineralization or angle between target and coil, by gaining experience in the field, you should be able to recognize many types of targets by Target ID value. Here is the table of ID values and object materials for it.

Using 3D ground scan mode will also tell you targets the exact location, the shape of the target, and its size. Using augmented reality these details are displayed through smartphones directly on to word environment in real-time.

Can metal detector tell depth?

Depth estimation is a very complex thing and it almost impossible to implement it to make perfect  due to these reasons:

  • there can be several targets at one place at a different depth, since the device is not able to know that, it takes into calculation the sum of all

  • objects come in different shapes, mass, and material, so it is hard to predict what exactly take into account

So a metal detector always displays the approximate depth of the object when the target is detected.

What kind of objects can be discovered using metal

Precious metals like gold and silver, gold coins, gold nuggets, silver coins, jewelry, ancient bronze objects, world war findings.

How does a gold metal detector not detect itself?

Because the search coil of the detector is always and it should always be extended away from a module of the detector. When the coil is extended it's surrounded only by carbon materials that's why it cant detect itself.

Is metal detector safe?

Till now, there are no such cases reported about people suffering in one way or another after they have passed via a metal detector. Do metal detectors emit radiation? Yes, they do. But the energy that is emitted by a metal detector is not dangerous or harmful. In cases of walk through metal detectors, they use low-level x-rays which have been known to be harmless. These metal detectors are made considering human bodies. So it is understandable that there is no reason to worry about and the technology used in it is safe and harmless.

To make your search more secure, please follow these precautions:

  • never treasure hunt in a zone where bombs or other explosives may be buried,

  • never treasure hunt in an area where there might be underground electric lines or pipes buried at a shallow depth,

  • never treasure hunt in an area with flammable gas or liquid pipelines,

  • always use reasonable caution in digging, especially in areas where you are uncertain of underground conditions,

  • for safety reasons do not use headphones near traffic or other dangers like rattlesnakes.

Can metal detectors be waterproof?

Metal detectors can be waterproof, this is a very important feature, most of the detectors can be used in wet areas but this doesn't mean they can be used in the water. When we talk about waterproof metal detectors we refer to the search coil and the rod of the detector. This allows us to place the search coil in the water(rivers, streams, ponds).

But this kind of waterproof metal detector cant is used underwater when scuba diving.

What's the correct use of your metal detector?

Firstly make sure that your metal detector is assembled correctly. Check smartphones and the detector's battery status. Adjust the length of the stem for a comfortable and relaxed body position when sweeping. It is very important that you learn how to sweep properly before using the detector:

Make sure that you read a quick start guide in the user manual and all other important notes. When you know basic operations, you can start scanning. Make sure that your smartphone is connected to the metal detector to exes all the advanced features. When the target is detected make sure to scan the same are from 90 degrees angels again to determine the exact location of the target. Use advanced features to determine the depth and material of the target before digging it. Don't forget to cover the hole after digging and leave the environment clean without causing any unnecessary damage.

How to balance metal detector?

Soil contains iron minerals that can cause much higher signals than buried targets we are interested in. With ground balancing we calibrate the detector device to local ground, this eliminates false signals from minerals, enabling the detector to detect deeper and provide more accurate Target ID results. The ground balancing is performed in ALL METAL mode with the Gain position set to middle. The threshold needs to be set to the point where we can hear background hum. Find the place where is no metal presence in the ground. Press the GG button, then raise and lower the coil repeatedly over a clear patch of soil. When the GND PHASE value is settled down to 1 or 2 release GG button.

Is gold metal detector working in the house?

No, we don't recommend it. Because metal detectors are outdoor devices only and should not be used inside houses or next to electronic devices. If used indoors metal detector will not work properly and the results are gonna be fouls, due to interference with too much metal or third-party magnetization field.

Where are the best places to use a metal detector?

After you buy your metal detector of choice you probably want to know where to start searching.

Well before going out to unknown territory or to places you think are potentials of finding something. We recommend you firstly sweep your backyard or Front YARD. For two main reasons. First, the Yards are an active place of movement many people have used this area before you, this means it can be a great place for containing some great lost objects form preview owners or your self. The second great thing is it can be your personal testing ground to learn how to properly use your new detector, you can test it and get to know all the features before going out on an adventure. The great alternative, if you don't own a Yard is to go to someone else yard (for example to your friend's yard or anyone you know, that has one).

Next and probably the most popular place is the BEACH. This is a very active place with very soft soil to dig. It's a great place of finding some precious lost items. But make sure that you get permission for this, usually, you can read about this on the internet. If you do it illegally you can face a fine. And make sure you don't disturb other people when searching with your metal detector.

Other great similar places to beaches are PARKS, FIELDS, WOODS, and FOOTPATHS. All these places are very similar to a beach, they are active places and can pose some great finds. Always make sure that you don't break any law or disturb natural habitat when searching.

Any active place where people move and spend free time can be great for searching. The other places where some historical actions take place al also great opportunities. Places like Battle sites usually poses a lot of objects that can be valuable. These places usually take some research about history to be found and located. Usually reading some books or reading some forums and local chat rooms will be very helpful to you.

How deep does a metal detector detect targets?

The deepest that a metal detector can detect is approximately 1m or 40 inches. But detection depth depends on various circumstances, for example, the material and size of the target. The great factor in detection depth is soil material and its magnetization.

Can an app turn your smartphone into a metal detector?

No, of course not. The smartphone can only be used as a displaying device.  You will need another external device like GoldHunter to work properly. And an application that supports it, like TresureHunet3d App.

Where is metal detecting allowed and in which countries are metal detecting banned? Check out the list below:

How does metal detector drone work?

The drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), an aircraft that can fly without a pilot used for military, police, and commercial missions in a variety of applications. A drone treasure detector is a drone that carries an attached treasure detector sensor that is optimized for flight use. This device can scan survey areas 10 times faster than other detectors besides that it can do it completely automatically by itself using autopilot functionality. The drone is controlled by a smartphone application that enables users to mark the scan area on the map. Once the area is selected and confirmed, the drone will start flying over the selected area and the application will collect treasure sensor information from the drone displaying it on the smartphone application map.

What can be detected with metal detector drone?

Drone detectors are made for surveying big areas easier and quicker than by foot. They are meant and are recommended for detecting big objects or artifacts and surveying at archeological sites. Drone treasure detectors can detect the same metallic and non-metallic objects as treasure detectors.

How to operate metal detector drone work?

Operating with a drone detector is very easy. Mostly because the drone will do everything for you because it is fully automatic. Make sure that you read the user manual and know everything about basic operations before going on searching expeditions. We also recommend the first test somewhere on an open field. So you get familiar with operating drones before going searching for the first time.

How safe is metal detector drone?

The drone detector is a fully automated scanner. Its equipped with many motion sensors that allow a drone to automatically avoid obstacles like trees. It's capable of self-adjusting to height, this makes scanning in hills much easier and safer. So as long as it is used with caution drone detectors are safe. Make sure to always observe a drone during scanning, never use them in places where there are other people, also make sure that you stay away from the drone flying path while scanning is in progress.

How deep can metal detector drone detect?

The depth detection of the drone detector varies, much more than for the handheld detector. There are many factors to consider when talking about detection depth, like:

  • The detection depth depends on the height above the ground that drone is operated (the higher the drone flies the lower detection depth)

  • The detection depth depends on the ground material. If the ground is made from highly mineralized material the detection depth is lower. If the magnetization level is lower, the detection depth is higher.

The maximum approximated depth drone detector can reach is 25m or 80ft for big and massive objects.

How big area can you cover with drone?

The area coverage of the drone detector depends on different factors like the battery, scan resolution, scan accuracy, and flying speed. The more battery life the drone has the bigger area it can be covered in one scan. If you are using a higher resolution of scanning the smaller area can be covered than if using a lower resolution, since the drone flying path is longer.

Max. scan area that can be done with the drone is around one square kilometer.

What is expected Battery life? Can it be replaceable?

A fully charged battery enables drones to fly for 25 minutes.

And the battery is replaceable which means you can use multiple batteries and replace them during your search expedition.

What is the maximum drone range?

The maximum drone flying range is 7km.

The speed of scanning also affects scanning area size.

If you are scanning at a lower speed you will not cover as big an area as if you would scan an area at a higher speed. The speed is also a factor in scanning time if you scan faster less time it will take to cover the area. So approximate maximum range of the drone detector is 7km in distance if operated more than that the drone will lose connection with the head unit. If the battery is fully charged you can cover the maximum area surface of one square kilometer in a single scan. The area coverage also depends on the environment. We recommend scanning on open areas.

Does metal detector drone has camera support?

Yes, the drone detector has camera support Camera can be used and operated as on a normal drone without the detector sensor. With a camera, you can observe and record scanning. This helps you to better visualize the scanning of the drone, it gives you better control and also improves safety.

Can drone treasure detector be used to do a marine

Yes, with a drone treasure detector you can survey open waters like the seas. The drone detector is made for scanning big objects so it is capable to detect shipwrecks on the bottom of the sea.

Where can drone treasure detector be used?

The drone detector can be used on many surfaces and places. Its recommended to use it on open areas without too many objects. Because scanning over objects reduces the sensitivity of the drone. It can be used on open fields of any sort, over smaller bunches, over rivers and lakes, in hills and mountains.

Is metal detector drone a long-range detector?

A drone treasure detector is called a long-range scanner due to its ability to scan larger areas in a very short time, anyhow it should not be confused with long-range metal detectors that are fake devices that use imaginary technologies that don’t exist and were never proven by science.

More about long-range detectors can be found here:
